Frequently Asked Questions

What does a postpartum doula do?

A postpartum doula supports the whole family in the weeks after birth. That can mean helping with newborn care, giving you time to rest or shower, supporting feeding however you choose to do it, light meal prep and tidying, and listening without judgment.

Is doula support medical care?

No. Doulas offer emotional, physical and practical support, but they do not diagnose, treat, or give medical advice. Always check with your doctor, midwife, or pediatrician about medical questions.

What area do you serve?

First Chapter Postpartum Doula serves families on the South Shore of Massachusetts. If you are not sure whether you are in range, send a message and we will figure it out together.

How much experience do you have?

Leah has one year of experience supporting families as a doula, and she is always learning. She is happy to talk about her background and what to expect when you reach out.

How far in advance should I reach out?

As early as you like. Many families reach out during pregnancy, but it is never too late. Earlier notice gives the best chance that your dates are available.
